Setting Up Trading Preferences

Configure your trading style, account size, and risk preferences.

Your Trading Preferences

ForgeEdge lets you customize your experience to match your unique trading style and goals.

Trading Style

Choose your primary trading approach:

  • Day Trading — Hold positions minutes to hours
  • Swing Trading — Hold positions overnight to days
  • Long-term Investing — Hold positions weeks to months
  • Options Trading — Trade derivatives and leverage

Your trading style affects:

  • Default timeframes when you enter trades
  • Recommended risk management settings
  • Suggested courses and learning paths
  • Which signals get recommended

Account Size

Enter your actual trading account size. ForgeEdge uses this to:

  • Calculate position sizes based on your risk percentage
  • Show you max risk per trade ($)
  • Visualize your equity curve and drawdowns

Update this whenever your account grows or shrinks significantly.

Risk Per Trade

Set your risk percentage per trade (we recommend 1-1.5%):

  • 0.5% — Ultra-conservative, very long runway before ruin
  • 1% — Sweet spot for most traders
  • 1.5% — More aggressive, still reasonable
  • 2%+ — Only for experienced traders with proven edge

ForgeEdge shows you in real-time how much $ this represents based on your account size.

Default Timeframe

Choose your default charting timeframe (5m, 15m, 1h, 4h, 1d):

  • Day traders: 5m or 15m
  • Swing traders: 1h or 4h
  • Long-term: 1d

This is just a default—you can change it anytime you log a trade.

Currency

Select your preferred currency (USD, EUR, GBP). All your P&L calculations will be in this currency.

When to Update

Review and update your preferences monthly:

  • Has your account size changed? Update it.
  • Are you still day trading or did you shift to swing? Update it.
  • Finding your risk percentage is too conservative or aggressive? Adjust it.

Small tweaks in these settings compound into big differences in your trading results.
